Selena Gomez reveals Taylor Swift's songs and gifts from '17 years of friendship'

Selena Gomez has confirmed that Taylor Swift wrote songs that Selena actually inspired.

On the latest episode of Friends Keep Secrets — Benny Blanco’s YouTube podcast with rapper Lil Dicky (real name David Burd) and his wife, actress Kristin Batalucco — Selena, 33, opened up about her longtime friendship with American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift.

“Well, Dorothea’s about me, one of her songs. A lot of huge moments that were self defining from relationships, family, love, we were figuring it all out. I was 15, and she was 18,” she revealed.

The American actress and singer also mentioned an unreleased song, Family, which Taylor wrote over a decade ago about their friendship.

“It was basically saying, you have these amazing dreams. ‘You want to be in a movie, in every crowd I still see you.’ And then her part was, ‘You believe in my stupid dreams, like playing stadiums,’” Selena recalled.

“And now when I listen to that song, that’s really sweet. It was just the sweetest thing. So I love it,” she emotionally shared.

Reflecting on growing up in the public eye together, Selena said, “We survived it as best we could. Actually, this is so cool that you get it. It’s absolutely unbelievable to come from 17 years of friendship, from multiple heartbreaks and love stories and fun stories in life.”

Aside from songs, Benny Blanco, 33 also revealed Taylor’s gift to Selena. “Selena says, 'Taylor made this for me, for my 30th birthday.’ And it’s one of the best paintings that I’ve ever seen.”

“She did it on an actual cloth and she painted a beautiful lake, and it was at night and the moon was there and the stars she painted our exact star signs. And she said, ‘here’s to the next 30 years, handsewn and it says from Taylor to Selena, sewn by hand.”

“Instead of writing or printing it, she sewed every letter. It was so sweet.” Selena added.

Taylor and Selena first met in 2008 while dating two of the three  Jonas brothers. Taylor was with Joe and Selena with Nick. Their friendship quickly grew after a double date, with Taylor calling Selena “the closest thing I’ve ever had to a sister.”

Selena also became vocal about their friendship on the episode of podcast, saying, “I’m very lucky.”

“It’s cool to have a friends just like you and Benny,” she added, referring to Lil Dicky and Kristin Batalucco.

Over the years, the two global Pop stars have shown their support to each other publicly, from award shows to sharing the stage. Taylor was even by Selena’s side for her wedding to American music producer Benny Blanco, celebrating yet another milestone in their decade-long friendship.
