An Iranian missile launched towards central Israel, carrying a cluster warhead, hit at least 10 sites including a kindergarten on Saturday (March 21), the mayor for Rishon Lezion said.
Mayor of the central Israeli city, Raz Kinstlich, told Reuters outside the kindergarten that if the attack were to happened during a school day, the results could be more severe.
A still photo published by Israel's police showed a destroyed room of the kindergarten, filled with debris and craters in the walls.
Israel and Iran attacked each other on Saturday as the U.S. was sending thousands more Marines to the Middle East and President Donald Trump accused NATO allies of cowardice over their reluctance to help open the Strait of Hormuz.
Among the missiles Iran has fired at Israel are some with cluster munition warheads that are harder for Israel's missile defense shields to neutralize.
More than 2,000 people have been killed since the U.S. and Israel attacked Iran on February 28, while global energy prices have surged and concerns about a drawn-out regional conflict were increasing.
