Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Friday said she wrote to the European Union's top leaders urging strengthened coordination on border vigilance in response risks that Ebola infection may spread in the continent.
"Italy believes that the epidemiological situation in Central Africa linked to the recent outbreak of the Bundibugyo Ebola virus (BVD) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda warrants the utmost attention," a statement said.
Meloni said she proposed that border management should be added to the agenda of the next EU summit in June, and Italy is also calling for a EU health ministers' videoconference next week.
