A sandstorm swept through tent camps in southern and central Gaza on Saturday (March 14), destroying shelters and sending belongings flying, as thousands of displaced Palestinians struggled to secure their makeshift homes amid strong winds.
The storm struck Khan Younis and Gaza City, where families living in temporary encampments have been left vulnerable to the elements following months of conflict.
"Every time a wave of wind comes, the tents fall down," said Mouhamed Abu Harbid, a displaced resident.
Abu Harbid described worsening conditions as sand buried essential belongings, including mattresses, blankets, and basic supplies, while makeshift bathrooms fell apart in the storm.
While Israeli attacks on Gaza declined at the beginning of the war with Iran, they have since begun to rise. Israel has killed 23 in Gaza since the U.S. and Israel jointly struck Iran on February 28, according to Palestinian officials.
While a ceasefire went into effect in Gaza in October, there have been regular outbreaks of violence since then.
Reuters has reported that U.S. President Donald Trump's peace plan for Gaza has been on hold since the start of the Iran war.
