Mexican authorities rescued 229 migrants who were found locked inside a truck in the state of Veracruz on Monday (March 23).
The discovery was made during a security operation in which officers stopped and inspected a tractor-trailer reported stolen. Among those found inside the vehicle were minors.
Adolfo Toss Capistran, Director of Regional Policy for the Veracruz state government, said the migrants were in fair to good health but showed signs of dehydration.
Capistran said the migrants were all from Central American countries, including Guatemalan indigenous people.
Paramedics attended the scene to provide medical care, while officers from the National Migration Institute and the Attorney General's Office carried out the legal and administrative procedures.
