President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. may consider a proposal to implement a four-day workweek in government offices as part of efforts to conserve energy, Malacañang said.
Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said the President may study the suggestion, particularly if tensions in the Middle East worsen. She noted that the proposal has not yet been formally discussed in Malacañang.
The proposal was earlier suggested by Senator Win Gatchalian, who recommended a four-day workweek as a measure to save fuel amid the potential disruption in oil supply due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
On Tuesday, Marcos also urged government employees and the public to conserve energy by using public transportation, carpooling, and avoiding “unnecessary travel.” He encouraged private car owners to consider commuting as part of these efforts.
