Islamabad was under a heavy security lockdown ahead of planned talks on Saturday (April 11) between the United States and Iran, with thousands of paramilitary personnel and army troops deployed and checkpoints set up in the city.
Washington and Tehran are due to begin negotiations seeking to end the six-week-old Iran war that has killed thousands of people across the Middle East, disrupted energy supplies, fed inflation and slowed the global economy.
Some residents in Islamabad have expressed hope that the talks would yield a positive outcome.
