WASHINGTON – The United Nations Security Council on Tuesday condemned the attack on the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the United Arab Emirates, saying the incident constitutes a violation of international law, according to a council statement.
The 15-member body did not attribute responsibility for the attack.
Last week, the UAE said six drones were launched from Iraq toward its territory, including one that caused a fire at the nuclear facility. Iraqi territory is home to several powerful Iran-backed militia groups that have previously claimed responsibility for attacks on what they describe as “enemy bases” in Iraq and across the region amid the wider U.S.-Israeli conflict involving Iran.
The situation has raised renewed concerns over regional security and the potential risks to critical energy infrastructure.
