Kumar Rocker delivered a stellar performance on the mound, allowing just one run on four hits over a season-high six innings, as the Texas Rangers secured a 5-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday. This victory marked the beginning of the Rangers' nine-game homestand.

Rocker (1-1) walked one batter and struck out five, helping Texas bounce back after a road-heavy start to their season, having played 16 of their first 22 games away from home. The Rangers’ bullpen continued the dominance, with Cole Winn, Jacob Latz, and Jakob Junis each throwing a scoreless inning in relief.

Jake Mangum and Nick Gonzales were the standout hitters for the Pirates, each recording two hits. Despite their efforts, Pittsburgh has now dropped three of its last five games.

Pittsburgh took an early lead in the first inning. Leadoff hitter Oneil Cruz reached base with a single, stole second, advanced to third on an error, and scored on Ryan O'Hearn's single up the middle, giving the Pirates a 1-0 advantage.

Texas responded quickly, plating two runs in the second inning against Carmen Mlodzinski (1-1), who had been stellar, not allowing an earned run in his previous 13 innings. Joc Pederson led off the inning with a single and advanced to third on Josh Jung’s double to center. Pederson scored on Evan Carter’s single, and Jung later came home on Josh Smith’s sacrifice fly after Danny Jansen struck out.

The Pirates threatened again in the fifth inning, putting two runners on with two outs. However, Rocker managed to escape danger when Carter made an incredible catch, leaping over the center-field wall to rob Cruz of a potential three-run homer.

Texas expanded their lead with a three-run rally in the fifth, knocking Mlodzinski out of the game. Smith led off with a double, advanced to third on a flyout by Brandon Nimmo, and scored on Ezequiel Duran’s double. Wilber Dotel replaced Mlodzinski after Corey Seager drove in another run with an RBI single. Jake Burger followed with a single, and Pederson walked to load the bases. Seager then scored on Jung’s force-out, making it 5-1.

Mlodzinski, who threw a season-high 93 pitches, allowed five runs on six hits over 4 1/3 innings, walking two and striking out six.

The Pirates had a final chance in the seventh inning when Mangum singled with one out. However, Konnor Griffin flied out, and Henry Davis struck out on three pitches, leaving Mangum stranded.

In the fifth inning, Texas left fielder Wyatt Langford exited the game with right forearm tightness and was replaced by Duran.

With the win, the Rangers continue their homestand, while Pittsburgh will look to regroup in their next matchup.
