Sal Stewart's two-run homer in the first inning helped the Cincinnati Reds extend their winning streak to four games, securing a 6-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday.

The Reds, who currently lead the National League Central, jumped out to an early 2-0 lead as Stewart slugged his eighth home run of the season. The first baseman's long ball off Rays starter Jesse Scholtens came on a 3-2 pitch, driving in Matt McClain, who had doubled earlier in the inning. The Reds never looked back, improving their record to 4-0 on their current six-game road trip and 6-1 in their last seven contests.

In addition to his home run, Stewart was a standout all-around, adding a double, scoring twice, stealing a base, and contributing two strong defensive plays in the ninth inning. Cincinnati's Rece Hinds also came up clutch, delivering a two-run double to extend the lead.

Cincinnati's starter, Rhett Lowder (3-1), was in control after a rough first inning. Despite allowing the first four batters to reach base, including an RBI walk to Yandy Diaz, Lowder settled in and gave up just one run on five hits over six innings. The right-hander struck out three and walked two, helping the Reds improve to 9-2 on the road this season.

On the other side, Tampa Bay's offense struggled to generate much against Lowder and the Reds' bullpen. Chandler Simpson went 2-for-5 with a run, but the Rays managed only six hits on the night. Scholtens (1-1) took the loss after allowing five runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings. The righty struck out six but did not issue a walk.

The Reds' offense continued to capitalize on opportunities. In the third, Elly De La Cruz's bloop single to right field scored TJ Friedl, giving Cincinnati a 3-1 lead. Then, in the sixth, a defensive miscue by Tampa Bay third baseman Junior Caminero allowed two runners to advance into scoring position, setting up Hinds' two-run double for a 5-1 advantage.

In the seventh, Reds reliever Trevor Martin made his major league debut, pitching 2 1/3 innings and allowing one run. Martin helped Cincinnati close out the win, with Stewart scoring the final run on a wild pitch in the seventh after a double and stolen base.

The Reds now look to continue their road success as they prepare for the next game in the series.
