GOLF: Bryson DeChambeau held meeting during Masters to discuss LIV exit – report

Bryson DeChambeau is reportedly in talks about a possible return to the PGA Tour, even as he competes in his final season with LIV Golf. The former U.S. Open champion is reportedly meeting with "organizations" to discuss his future amid rumors that LIV Golf may be ending its financial support.

Bryson DeChambeau, who has spent the last few years competing in LIV Golf, reportedly used his time at the Masters Tournament earlier this month to explore the possibility of returning to the PGA Tour. According to a report by The Athletic, DeChambeau, who is in the final season of his original LIV Golf contract, was not only focused on his performance at Augusta, but also engaged in discussions with unnamed “organizations” about a potential departure from LIV Golf.

Though DeChambeau was offered the opportunity to rejoin the PGA Tour earlier this year through the Returning Member Program, he reportedly declined the offer. The program was created after Brooks Koepka made the decision to leave LIV Golf and return to the PGA Tour earlier in 2026.

Other LIV Golf stars who also declined the option to return were Jon Rahm and Cam Smith. These three players were the only ones offered a pathway back to the PGA Tour under specific conditions: they had to have been away from the PGA Tour for at least two years and had to have won either a major tournament or a Players Championship title between 2022 and 2025.

DeChambeau’s reported meetings at the Masters came amid growing speculation that LIV Golf’s financial backing from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund could be coming to an end. However, LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil responded to these rumors, assuring the public that the league would not fold. O'Neil also confirmed that LIV Golf’s financing is secured through the 2026 season.

The fourth season of LIV Golf still has seven tournaments remaining, including five events in the United States, following last week’s tournament in Mexico. DeChambeau, who withdrew from the Mexico event after two rounds citing a wrist injury, had previously expressed dissatisfaction with the course conditions. The next event on the schedule is LIV Golf Virginia, scheduled to take place at Trump National Golf Club from May 7-10.

DeChambeau, 32, has had a strong start to the year, winning consecutive events in March at LIV Golf Singapore and LIV Golf South Africa, both in thrilling playoffs. A two-time U.S. Open champion, DeChambeau has amassed five individual LIV Golf titles. When LIV Golf launched in 2022, he reportedly signed a lucrative $125 million contract for 4 1/2 years. Recent reports suggest that DeChambeau is seeking as much as $500 million for a new contract if he chooses to remain with LIV Golf.

As the future of LIV Golf continues to evolve, it remains to be seen whether DeChambeau will make the switch back to the PGA Tour or stay with the controversial league.
