The exodus of star players from BYU will not include sophomore guard Robert Wright III, who has decided to remain in Provo, ESPN reported on Wednesday.

Wright, regarded as one of the top point guards in the transfer portal, earned third-team All-Big 12 honors last season after helping BYU finish 23-12. The Cougars were eliminated by 11th-seeded Texas in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

In his standout campaign, Wright led the team with 4.6 assists and 1.2 steals per game while ranking second in scoring at 18.1 points per contest. He started all 35 games, also averaging 3.5 rebounds and shooting 46.7% from the field, including 41% from three-point range.

BYU is expected to lose key contributors this offseason, including All-American forward AJ Dybantsa, who led the nation as a freshman with 25.5 points per game and is projected as a potential No. 1 pick in the upcoming NBA Draft. Guard Richie Saunders, an All-Big 12 second-team selection this season and first-team honoree in 2025, also saw his season cut short in mid-February due to a torn ACL, concluding his final year with the program.

Wright previously played at Baylor, where he averaged 11.5 points, 4.2 assists, 2.1 rebounds and 1.0 steals over 35 games (21 starts) during the 2024-25 season. He earned Big 12 All-Freshman Team honors during his debut campaign.
