The Boston Bruins capped off the regular season with a dominant 4-0 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday, securing the first wild card spot in the Eastern Conference. Mark Kastelic led the charge, scoring two of Boston's four goals in the first period.
Jeremy Swayman shined in net, stopping all 21 shots he faced, recording his second shutout of the season. This win extends the Bruins' current streak to two games as they head into the playoffs. The team finished with a 45-27-10 record, accumulating 100 points, and will face the Atlantic Division champion Buffalo Sabres in the opening round.
Morgan Geekie and Viktor Arvidsson also found the back of the net for the Bruins, while Sean Kuraly notched two assists. David Pastrnak, with his assist on Geekie's opening goal, secured his fourth consecutive 100-point season, further solidifying his status as one of the league's elite playmakers.
Arvidsson’s goal marked a milestone as he became the first Bruin since Jarome Iginla in 2013-14 to hit the 25-goal mark in his first season with the team.
Swayman was perfect between the pipes, with 10 of his saves coming in a strong opening period. New Jersey’s Nico Daws, making his second consecutive start, stopped 22 shots but couldn’t prevent the Devils from falling behind early.
The Bruins wasted no time taking control of the game, opening the scoring just 53 seconds into the first period. Pastrnak set up Geekie for a wrist shot goal from the low slot, marking Geekie’s milestone point of the season.
Kastelic added his first goal at 6:14, finishing a pass from Tanner Jeannot. Just over 11 minutes later, Kastelic struck again, with a well-placed wrist shot top-shelf after a quick sequence that started with a key defensive play by Mason Lohrei.
Arvidsson capped a dominant first period for the Bruins with a goal 8 seconds before the intermission. Following a faceoff win, Hampus Lindholm's shot from the top of the circle was rebounded by Kuraly and passed to an open Arvidsson, who tapped it past Daws for a 4-0 lead.
In the final minutes of the game, Michael Eyssimont had a chance to make it 5-0 after a rebound of a Lohrei shot, but New Jersey’s successful offside challenge nullified the goal.
With the regular season now behind them, the Bruins will look to carry this momentum into the postseason as they prepare for their first-round matchup against the Buffalo Sabres.
