Brazilian defender Eder Militao is currently recovering from a thigh injury but is not expected to miss this summer's World Cup, ESPN reported Thursday.
Militao, 28, sustained the injury during Real Madrid's 2-1 victory over Alaves in La Liga on Tuesday. According to a statement from the club, tests conducted by Real Madrid's medical staff confirmed that the Brazilian has a muscle injury in the biceps femoris of his left leg. The team added that Militao’s recovery progress will be closely monitored.
This latest setback adds to a series of injuries Militao has faced in recent seasons, including significant knee issues during the 2023-24 and 2024-25 campaigns. Despite these challenges, Militao has made an important impact for Brazil, scoring two goals in 38 appearances for the national team since his debut in 2018.
As Brazil gears up for the World Cup, the national team has two scheduled friendlies: against Panama on May 31 and Egypt on June 7. These matches will provide a final chance for players to fine-tune their form ahead of the tournament.
Brazil, currently ranked No. 6 in the world, has been drawn into Group C for the World Cup alongside Morocco, Haiti, and Scotland. The five-time World Cup champions are set to begin their campaign on June 13 against Morocco in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
