SOCCER: Union bring challenged offense north to face streaking Toronto FC

Toronto FC will look to extend their unbeaten streak to seven matches when the Philadelphia Union visit for a midweek showdown on Wednesday.
Toronto (3-2-3, 12 points) is in strong form, boasting a 3-0-3 record over their last six games. Wednesday's match will be the sixth of Toronto FC's nine-match homestand, and they remain unbeaten in their last 12 home matches (4-0-8) dating back to the previous season.
Despite the team's positive results, midfielder Malik Henry believes his side has missed opportunities to secure more wins.
"Some of the draws we've had, we feel like we definitely could have won those games, which makes it a bit more disappointing," Henry said in an interview with TFC Republic. "We just have to take the points and keep moving forward."
The club will also receive a boost with the return of defender Walker Zimmerman, who is expected to be available for Wednesday's match after missing the last two games due to a calf injury. His presence is especially important as Toronto’s back line has been dealing with multiple injuries.
Toronto’s offense has been a major strength this season, with eight players scoring at least one goal. The team has also been highly efficient in front of goal, with an MLS-leading 51.5% shooting accuracy.
On the other hand, Philadelphia (1-6-1, 4 points) has struggled offensively, ranking near the bottom of the league with a 27.1% accurate shooting percentage, second to last in MLS. The Union have scored just six goals in eight regular-season matches, ahead of only D.C. United, who have scored four.
Philadelphia’s offensive struggles were highlighted during their season-opening six-game losing streak, and while the Union has managed a slight improvement with a 1-0-1 record in their last two matches, goals remain hard to come by. Their recent 0-0 draw against D.C. United on Saturday was a testament to this, despite outshooting their opponents 17-6 and keeping D.C. without a shot on target.
Union head coach Bradley Carnell is hopeful that reuniting strikers Bruno Damiani and Ezekiel Alladoh will spark his team’s attacking play.
"We have tried a lot of different combinations (at forward) and now we go back-to-back with the same," Carnell said. "Every day we get together with Eze and Bruno, it's one day more advanced and developed."
With both teams looking to make strides in different aspects of their game, Wednesday's matchup promises to be a crucial test for both sides.
