LONDON – West Ham United failed to seize the opportunity to move further away from the Premier League relegation zone, as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Crystal Palace on Monday.

A win would have given West Ham a four-point cushion above third-from-bottom Tottenham Hotspur with just five matches remaining. However, they were left to settle for a point, which leaves them still in a precarious position.

West Ham remain in 17th place with 33 points from 33 matches, just two points above 18th-placed Tottenham, who have 31 points from the same number of games.

The closest the visitors came to breaking the deadlock was through a header from Konstantinos Mavropanos, but Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson was quick to make the save.

Palace's best chance came in the first half when former Tottenham forward Brennan Johnson misfired, sending a header well wide of the target from a prime position in front of goal. Crystal Palace remain in 13th place in the table.
