The Philadelphia Union have secured a new contract with homegrown defender Nathan Harriel on Wednesday, extending his stay with the club through 2028-29, with an option for the 2029-30 season.
At just 24 years old, Harriel has already proven to be a key figure in the Union's defense and has earned a spot on the U.S. Men's National Team. Interim sporting director Jon Scheer praised the defender's contributions to the team.
"Nate has established himself as an essential piece of our backline over the past five years," said Scheer. "His versatility, competitiveness, and dedication have been vital to the team's success, and his emergence as a leader both on and off the field has been significant. We look forward to his continued impact and the important role he will play in the years ahead."
Since debuting with the Union in 2021, Harriel has recorded six goals and six assists in 115 regular-season matches, including 96 starts. He has been a standout this season, leading the league with 17 interceptions.
On the international stage, Harriel earned his USMNT debut in 2025 and has since appeared in three friendlies against Turkey, Switzerland, and Japan.
The Union are excited to have Harriel continue his journey with the club as they look to build on their recent successes.
