Philippine tennis ace Alex Eala has barged into the WTA top 30, according to the rankings released by the  Women's Tennis Association (WTA) on Monday, March 16. Eala is now world number 29, her highest ranking so far.

Eala, 20, was at number 32 before she advanced by three spots to her current rank. Aryna Sabalenka, meanwhile, has tightened her grip on the  number one spot after winning the Indian Wells Open title last week.

Eala reaches her Top 30 ranking as she is set to compete in the Miami Open on March 19 as the 31st seed.

The Miami Open, a WTA 1000 event,  was Eala's breakout event last year when, as a qualifier, she eliminated Grand Slam winners Madison Keys, Iga Swiatek, and Jelena Ostapenko before she was stopped by then number 4 Jessica Pegula in the semifinals.

Her ranking before the Miami Open last March 2025 was 140. By yearend, she was ranked  number 50.

In her upcoming Miami Open match, which is in the round of 64,  she will faceoff with  the winner of the match  between  Laura Siegemund of Germany and Petra Marcinko of Croatia.

Eala is the first Filipino to reach the Top 100, Top 50, and now Top 30 of the WTA.
