The TikTok community is currently thriving over the song “Bebot” by Black Eyed Peas, which has sparked a viral makeup and style trend.
The videos typically begin with a bare and no-makeup look, then transition into a full bebot transformation. This trend allows creators to showcase a before and after look inspired by the classic “bebot” style.
The term bebot is Filipino slang derived from the English word baddie, referring to a woman who is confident, attractive, and has a bold personality.
While the trend originated in the Philippines and features a Filipino song, creators from around the world have joined in.
One of them was Croatian beauty influencer and makeup artist Mirta Miler, who took part in the trend.
In her TikTok post, she captioned it “Turning myself into a historically accurate bebot,” a phrase also commonly used by other participants.
By “historically accurate,” she meant the bebot style from the early 2000s, rather than the ‘modern’ bebot look. She mentioned discovering the trend on her For You page (personalized content based on the user's interests) before deciding to recreate it herself.
In her first video, Miler explained, “Wait a minute. Everyone and their mother is doing ‘Bebot makeup.’ And I’m sure at this point, you’re like, what is Bebot?”
“Apparently, it’s a Filipina baddie. It’s basically another way of saying that girl,” she added.
She carefully detailed how she was recreating the look while doing the step by step make-up.
“The brows are thin and straight, no fluff. The complexion is supposed to be medium to full coverage, [with a] porcelain matte finish. No heavy contouring but there is bronzing, and minimal peach blush. We are doing a smokey eye. I ‘m not baking, just tapping some area with the powder. A bebot would also add shimmer, and the eyeliner [is] very thin.”
To complete the transformation, she even added small and deliberately placed fake moles above her lip and below her cheek.
Mirta also acknowledged her Filipino followers and asked viewers to politely correct her if she got anything wrong.
She also mentioned that visiting the Philippines is on her bucket list for this year. While applying her makeup, she engaged with Filipino viewers by asking for tips on the best time to visit.
Mirta finished the look by styling her hair with volume and accessorizing with hoop earrings and jewelry. She then invited her audience to judge whether her look was truly a “historically accurate bebot.”
The response was mostly positive. While some viewers noted minor differences from the reference, the majority praised her effort, makeup skills and authenticity.
Filipino actress Denise Laurel even commented, “Babeee, I’m still waiting for when you wanna fly over!”
Miler seemed to genuinely enjoy recreating the trend. She even used the “Bebot” sound four times in her videos, showing her enthusiasm for the challenge and engagement with the trend.
The trend highlights how Filipino culture and style are being celebrated globally, demonstrating social media users' creativity and cultural appreciation.
