American actor Jason Momoa is set to star in the upcoming film adaptation of the popular video game Helldivers, produced by Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions.

The film will be directed by Justin Lin, known for his work on the Fast & Furious franchise, and is scheduled for a theatrical release on November 10, 2027.

Sony Pictures announced the casting on Instagram, highlighting the Aquaman star as the lead of the film adaptation.

While Jason Momoa’s casting has been confirmed, the studio has not yet revealed any of his co-stars.

The movie is based on Helldivers 2, a highly successful cooperative shooter game developed by Arrowhead Game Studios and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment

Its intense gameplay and strong community engagement  have attracted millions of active weekly players, making the cinematic adaptation one of Sony’s most ambitious video game projects to date.

Variety reports that the Helldivers movie continues Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions’ drive into big-budget video game adaptations following the success of the 2022 movie Uncharted.

Momoa will also portray the iconic DC antihero Lobo in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, part of the DC Universe’s reboot. The role fulfills a long-held dream for the actor, who has frequently expressed and described Lobo as his favorite comic book character.

When DC Studios began its universe reboot, Momoa reportedly approached executives to pitch himself for the role.

Directed by Craig Gillespie and produced by James Gunn and Peter Safran, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is scheduled for worldwide release in June 2026.

The film stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl, Matthias Schoenaerts as the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, David Krumholtz as Zor-El, and Emily Beecham as Alura In-Ze and Jason Momoa as Lobo.

James Gunn, Director and CEO of DC Studios, revealed that Momoa enthusiastically messaged him “LOBO BABY!” in all capitals. Momoa’s portrayal of Lobo has already generated excitement among fans.

The official trailer of Supergirl offers glimpses of the film’s tone and characters, including scenes of Momoa as the antihero bounty hunter.

In a previous Instagram post, Momoa is shown smiling before entering a car and saying “Finally!,” in reference to fulfilling his long-held desire and dream to play Lobo.

Jason Momoa, 46, was last seen in the action-comedy movie The Wrecking Crew, alongside former wrestler and actor Dave Bautista.

With two major projects on the horizon, Momoa is set to headline both a large-scale video game adaptation and a highly anticipated DC reboot, bringing to life characters he has long expressed passion for portraying.
