Royal Mail launches 'Stranger Things' stamps to celebrate finale of global hit series

Royal Mail unveiled on Tuesday (January 6), 14 "Stranger Things"-themed stamps to celebrate the fifth and final series of the global hit Netflix show.

Ten of the stamps depict key characters, including Eleven, Mike, Will, Lucas and Dustin, in series one to five, both in the real world, known in the show as the Rightside Up, complete with a red background, and another five with a blue background in the alternate dimension, known as the Upside Down. The latter five also include the characters of Eddie Munson, played by Joseph Quinn in season four, and the villainous Vecna, portrayed by Jamie Campbell Bower.

The other four stamps are set within an illustration of friends Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), Will (Noah Schnapp), Mike (Finn Wolfhard) and Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) riding their bikes. The show is set in the 1980s in the fictional Indiana town of Hawkins.

All the stamps were designed by British artist Kyle Lambert, the illustrator behind the posters for each season of "Stranger Things".

When a UV light is shone over the stamps, logos from the series also appear, Royal Mail said. The font used for the 1st class of the stamp is also the typeface used for the series.

"Stranger Things", which first premiered in 2016, follows a group of young friends battling supernatural horrors from the Upside Down alternate dimension.

The final season sees the gang of teenage friends trying to actively thwart the plans of their evil nemesis Vecna.

The Emmy Award-winning show became a massive hit upon its release, gaining a loyal following around the world and spawning video games, merchandise, cosplay, immersive experiences and a Tony Award-winning play.

Also starring Winona Ryder and David Harbour, the show catapulted its young cast, led by Millie Bobby Brown, into the global spotlight.

"Stranger Things" held the world premiere of its final season at the TCL Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard on November 6, wrapping up nine years of fantasy adventures.

The Royal Mail stamps can be pre-ordered from Tuesday, but go on general sale from January 13, with a presentation pack of all 14 stamps costing 24.70 pounds ($33.17).
