De'Anthony Melton led a balanced attack with a season-high 23 points, while Stephen Curry recorded more assists than points for the first time since last April, as the Golden State Warriors defeated the Portland Trail Blazers 119-97 on Tuesday in San Francisco. This marked Golden State’s first win over Portland in four attempts this season.
Jimmy Butler III added 16 points, Brandin Podziemski scored 15, Moses Moody had 14, and Draymond Green contributed 10, all finishing in double figures. The Warriors relied on 23 three-pointers and 34 assists to secure their third win in four games.
Curry struggled offensively, making just two of his nine field-goal attempts and two of eight from beyond the arc, finishing with a season-low seven points. However, he dished out a season-high 11 assists, marking his first game with more assists than points since April 6 of last season, when he had three points and eight assists against the Houston Rockets.
Portland, missing Deni Avdija due to a sore back, dropped their second consecutive game. Shaedon Sharpe led the team with 19 points, while Caleb Love added 17.
After losing the previous three matchups by a combined 29 points, the Warriors started fast, scoring 12 of the game’s first 16 points and never looking back. Golden State extended its lead to 67-41 by halftime, despite Curry contributing just four points.
The Trail Blazers got as close as 12 points in the third quarter with three-pointers from Toumani Camara and three teammates, but Golden State’s 47.2% shooting overall and 39.7% from three-point range proved too much to overcome.
Melton was 4-for-6 from beyond the arc, finishing with one more point than the 22 he scored against the Milwaukee Bucks last Wednesday. Moody also hit four three-pointers, helping the Warriors score more than half their points from long range.
Green added seven rebounds, two steals, and two blocks to his 10 points. He, along with Curry, Gui Santos, Will Richardson, and Al Horford, made two three-pointers each, while Podziemski made three. Santos also contributed four of Golden State’s 16 steals.
For Portland, Rayan Rupert scored 13 points, Jrue Holiday 12, and Robert Williams III 11. The Trail Blazers shot 43.4% overall and 29.8% from three-point range. Love led the team with seven assists, and Donovan Clingan pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.
